GEM GOSSIP – Designer Destinations

DESTINATIONSheader
Here at Single Stone, we get to work with some of the world’s best contemporary jewelry designers and jewelry nerds. We thought that it would be fun to get an insider look at their local haunts.

This month, the gem genius behind #showmeyourrings, Danielle Miele of GemGossip, takes us on a tour of her favorite hometown destinations.

Single Stone: Current Hometown (and how long have you been there?)

GemGossip: Nashville, TN — been here for 7 years, moving down south from western NY was a big change. I love it here!

SS: Favorite restaurant(s) and what’s the best thing on the menu?

GG: I love Adele’s for their meatballs and brownie sundaes and Chateau West for their creme brulee.  Can you tell I base everything off the dessert menu?!

SS: Favorite shopping destination(s) and why?

GG: For me, I like all the antique shops in Nashville and surrounding towns of Murfreesboro & Franklin, TN. I liked treasure hunting before I moved down here, but as soon as I saw all the shops and the amount of cool old stuff down here, I was hooked.  Murfreesboro has two huge antique centers rightfully named Antique Center I & II where I’ve scored some amazing finds, like a pair of black velvet French chairs with gold details.

For clothes shopping, I like H.Audrey and if I can’t find a dress online for an event I have to go to, Posh Boutique always saves me!

SS: Best way to spend “Family Day”?

GG: Walking around the relaxing woods of Radnor Lake or having a dinner party at someone’s home.  I’m lucky to have my parents and sisters nearby, as well as my fiance’s parents and sisters.

SS: You have a day to yourself….What’s on the itinerary?

GG: I just realized I need a day like this! I would spend the morning at A Moment’s Peace getting a massage and then having some alone time taking in whatever is on display at The Frist Center for Visual Arts.  Their current exhibit featuring Italian Fashion is really well done.

SS: Best kept hometown secret (that you’re willing to share)

GG: Arrington Vineyards is about a half hour drive from Nashville and it can get a little crowded after hours, especially on a weekend when they have live music.  My secret is to go on a random Tuesday afternoon on a clear, sunny day.  The views are amazing–think rolling hills–and sitting with a glass of wine outside is the best.

My other best kept secret is my hair stylist! I’ve known her since I first moved here and got lucky when randomly choosing a salon to go to…she now comes to my house and does my hair from the comfort of my home. She has become a great friend!

SS: Any tourist attractions that you actually enjoy frequenting?

GG: Every Christmas we check out Gaylord Opryland which is an iconic hotel/resort and music venue.  They go all out with the holiday decorating and it will put anyone into an immediate Christmas spirit–even me who sometimes can’t fathom Christmas without snow!  I also have a soft spot for the Country Music Hall of Fame even though I don’t really listen to country music. I appreciate the history, the legends and of course, Dolly Parton.

SS: I’m coming into the city for 3 days….what do I ABSOLUTELY have to do?

GG: Well, I would make you stay at the Hermitage Hotel, a turn-of-the-century fully-restored building that boasts a lengthy list of famous guests.  Pinewood Social is the newest destination for late night drinks, dinner and bowling with karaoke for those who are into that (you would never catch me singing anywhere). Hopefully you visit when the Nashville Flea Market is going on, because that is always fun to go to and you never know what you’re going to find!  Last time I went I found a Victorian baby ring that has an original monogram, unlike any I’ve ever seen before! We would go shopping and eat in “The Gulch” a hip, high-end area of Nashville that is always buzzing.  And lastly, I would drag you on to a “Pedal Tavern” which goes through the honky tonks and in the streets of downtown–if you don’t know what it is Google it.  I thought it would be stupid, but it was hilariously fun.
